Is Global Capitalism Compatible with Democracy? Inequality, Insecurity, and Interdependence

Abstract Global capitalism seems to be placing democracy, especially liberal under considerable stress. Support for populism has surged, extreme right parties with populist and authoritarian programs. Inequality, insecurity, interdependence—all associated globalization—have grown globally appear key sources of New technologies spread readily by globalization are also a force destabilization. Do these international forces pose existential challenges democracy? Liberal democracy rests on foundation political equality among citizens; it requires free fair elections, competition programmatic parties, legitimacy from public support, institutional constraints executive power majority rule. Is the rise global eroding all elements? If so, what can done about it?
